Treasure Island Short Summary
Treasure Island starts with Jim Hawkins’ point of view who is our main character. He is managing Animal Benbow Inn with his father. One day, a pirate named Billy Bones comes to the Inn. After living in the Inn, he warns Jim about the “one legged sailor”. When Billy Bones traveling the bay, someone comes to the Inn and asks for Billy Bones. It was Black Dog. Black Dog surprises Billy Bones by hiding. After that, Billy Bones and Black Dog starts talking but the conversation is not going well. Screams and curses are being heard. When Jim approaches them, he sees Black Dog running away. Billy Bones asks for Jim to bring rum. When Jim is back with the rum, he sees Billy Bones laying on the floor unconscious. When they were in a state where they did not know what to do, Doctor Livesey enters. Doctor helps Billy Bones regain consciousness. Billy Bones wakes up after a while. Actually, Billy Bones is the second captain in Captain Flint’s ship and only he knows where the treasure is. Billy Bones is anxious because a summon named Black Spot is about to arrive.
Suddenly, Jim’s father dies. Jim is busy with funeral arrangement and managing the Inn. In the meantime, Billy Bones’s situation is getting worse. They are afraid of him dying.
A blind man comes to the Inn and asks Jim to take him inside. When Jim offers him a hand, blind man grips him tightly and asks Jim to take him to captain, meaning Billy Bones. When the man sees Billy Bones, he hands him a paper, and this is the black spot. The summon is here and the captain has only six hours. In that exact moment captain has a stroke and dies. Jim explains all of this to his mother, desperately. With his mother they ask a villager to help them, but villagers are afraid, so they won’t help them. Jim and his mother go back to the Inn and they get the gold from the captain, who owes them. Meanwhile, someone is about to reach the Inn. They try to open the door. When they cannot open it, they walk away slowly. Though they understand that they need to go by the sound of the whistle. Jim’s mother throws away the money they got, and Jim throws away the package he got from the chest. Jim and his mother hides under a bridge. In the meantime, blind man and his men broke the door to the Inn and got inside of it. They search for package which has the treasure map everywhere but cannot find it because Jim got the package. Jim tell everything to the doctor and knight. They open the package together and they find Billy Bones’ notebook and a treasure map. They decide to sail. The Knight starts to gather the crew.
The crew and the ship are ready. The ship is sailed. Though the Captain is not happy about some things. He does not like the crew. He disagrees with the knight about it. The next events will make the captain right. The first incident happens with, Jim’s attempt to get an apple, which are inside a barrel, he overhears the conversation between the cook, Silver, and others. Silver is encouraging others to riot. They plan to keep the treasure for themselves. Jim tells everything to the captain and the knight. They start making their own plans.
When they land, the arguments and search for the treasure are going on. Pirates, sea and treasure are trio that is inseparable. If you like adventure books and pirates like I do, Treasure Island is made for you, whether you are young or old.
